African Traditional Literature Essay Example for Free

African Traditional Literature Essay Indigenous literature whether oral or written is the cultural heritage of most societies. Unfortunately, African traditional literature overtime has been treated as something inferior to their Western counterparts. But to a large extent, both traditional African literature and their European counterparts have similar socio-artistic values. Both express interest in the events happening in their society because they recognize their role as social barometer, hence, they need to express themselves properly to their audience no matter the language they use. African traditional literature shares a lot with similar literature from other parts of the world. More recent studies have indeed revealed that the old view that rural societies are not capable of producing elegant literature expressing the responses of men in an advanced culture to events around them is no longer tenable. This view was upheld by Westerners who studied traditional African literature with racial prejudice. They believed that African culture was still struggling for elementary problem of existence and was yet to attain the level of civilization that will facilitate the pursuit of literary achievement. But this view was met with a lot of controversial criticisms, as African Scholars began to argue the importance of African traditional literature in the literary world, stressing the fact that traditional literature is not only relevant, but should also be accorded a literary status in the literary world. Their reasons being that African literature perform certain functions in the society; the noticeable variety in the existing genre and; the competent evidence in the elegant use of language exhibited in the cause of performance with the resultant aesthetic effect, and with time, African traditional literature began to be accepted. But it was not wholly accepted by these Europeans. They began to employ their foreign concepts in the critical evaluation of African traditional literature. They believed that Africans do not possess adequate tools for the appraisal and evaluation of their literature. Hence, they began to employ these foreign approaches in the study of African traditional literature.

Understanding Difference Diversity to Develop Empathy

Understanding Difference Diversity to Develop Empathy Phil Makins 13th December 2016 Session 8 The topic of discussion today was Understanding Difference Diversity to Develop Empathic Understanding. We explored why an understanding of difference and diversity was important when using counselling skills in helping roles. We then went on to broaden that understanding and consider difference and diversity within our own personal relationships and in the wider social context to understand how this impacts on counselling. The reason difference and diversity is an important part of counselling training is to recognise that we are not all the same, everybody on the planet is a unique individual, even identical twins will have many differences in the way they feel and respond to different things. Whilst researching this topic I have come to realise that it is more complex than I first thought and goes far beyond the common diversity issues of gender, race, religion, and disability. Diversity runs much deeper than this and also comprises diversity of personalities, experiences, beliefs, and reactions to events. It is important to recognise such diversity if empathic understanding is to be provided to clients, but what is empathic understanding? And why is it so necessary? Empathic Understanding is one of the three core conditions of Person-Centred Counselling, the other two being Unconditional Positive Regard and Congruence. To be empathic has been described as seeing the world through the eyes of another person or walking in another persons shoes. It means that the counsellor accurately understands the clients thoughts, feelings, and meanings from the clients own perspective. When the counsellor perceives what the world is like from the clients point of view, it demonstrates not only that that view has value, but also that the client is being accepted. Could I show empathic understanding to a person or group whom I harbour stereotypical views or prejudice about? I doubt that I could be truly empathic in that situation so I would either change my mindset and try to remove the prejudice or take advice from my clinical supervisor. Further to this, empathy has often been confused with sympathy but they are very different. Empathy is something that is don e with someone whereas sympathy is a reaction to someone. Sympathy suggests feeling sorry for someone and that in turn suggests some sort of power imbalance, i.e. the person sympathising is in a greater position of power. Empathy is about being on an equal footing by entering into the clients world to try and understand and also communicating with each other to clarify and confirm that understanding. Without recognising diversity, it would be all too easy to impose our own thoughts and feelings onto a client, especially if the client is experiencing something we have experienced as It is human nature to look for similarities in other people and to identify with them. As counsellors, therefore, the challenge comes in identifying difference and being ok with it working with it, rather than being threatened by it. The counsellor who cant do this is merely placing more conditions of worth onto the client, which is incompatible with another one of the Core Conditions mentioned, namely, Unconditional Positive Regard. I started to think about my own beliefs and prejudices, do I have any prejudices? Surely not, I am a trainee counsellor and I work in a bank! But whenever I hear a Birmingham accent I`m afraid I do think that the person talking must be stupid. When I hear a Liverpool accent I think of youths, hoodies and joyriding. A quick bit of internet research shows that the three most disliked accents in the United Kingdom are Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow in that order with Birmingham being the most disliked. I know that for me to think all people from Birmingham are stupid and all youths from Liverpool are criminals is incorrect and wrong but our prejudices are deeply ingrained in us and difficult to remove as they have probably been instilled in us over a period of many years, possibly (probably) since childhood. So, how do we start to work towards removing our own prejudices? I should imagine one good way would be to Increase your exposure to or contact with those who belong to the groups toward which you have learned some prejudicial stereotypes. Misconceptions remain effective only when you avoid contact with those about whom you have misconceptions but, unfortunately, I do not know anyone from Birmingham or Liverpool. However, whenever I have prejudicial thoughts now I try and examine these thoughts and analyse why I am thinking them. I normally find that there is no real reason for my generalisation or prejudice and try and tell myself to remove the prejudicial feelings. If I keep reinforcing this I am sure it will start to work. We all experience things in a different way. A situation that could upset or annoy me could be viewed completely differently by another person. An example of this could be when theres a traffic accident and the police ask for witnesses to come forward and describe what happened. They like to have as many witness statements as possible so that they can build up enough evidence to give them a broader, more realistic version of events. In a traffic accident, there will be many different perspectives on what happened. The driver of one car will have one view, another driver or a passenger will have yet another view. Each onlooker who witnessed the accident will have a slightly different perspective, depending on where they were, how far away they were, how good a view they had, what else was going on, how much danger they felt they were in, how the accident affected them, what the accident means to them etc. Its the same principle with everything each situation, event or conversation means something different to all those involved, and also to those not involved. We give different meanings, according to our belief systems, and how we are affected by the event.

Portable Head CT Scan and its Effect on Intracranial Pressure (ICP), Ce

A portable Computed Tomography (CT) is used to manage and diagnose CNS diseases, and acute brain injuries, in the Neuroscience ICU (NICU), for example, Traumatic Brain Injuries(TBI), acute strokes, (transient ischemic attack) TIA’s, and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). CT studies are an important component in the assessment and management of patients with brain injuries. The portable device is designed specifically for head and neck scans for critically ill patients that are at risk for complications and increased morbidity during intrahospital transportation. Researchers have studied and found evidence that substantiates that intrahospital transport of patients with SAH or brain injuries can affect their outcomes. Many hospital protocols dictate the use of portable head CT (pHCT) scanners to monitor and assess critically ill patients in the NICU, to decrease negative effects of intrahospital transportation on patient outcomes. This is an important factor in reduction and pre vention secondary injuries in critically ill patients. The intention of this paper is to conduct a critical analysis of a related research article. The article reviewed is Portable Head CT Scan and its Effect on Intracranial Pressure (ICP), Cerebral Perfusion Pressure (CPP), and Brain Oxygen. First, there will be an identification of the premise of the study through an article synopsis. Second, validity of the study will be described and discussed. Lastly, this paper will discuss how this research is applicable to Neuro ICU at UNM Hospital. Article Synopsis: The authors of this research article were from the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Anesthesiology & Critical Care, Nursing, and Biostatistics & Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania... ... The research conducted by Peace et.al. raises a valid hypothesis that warrants further study in order to decrease the risks to patients on NICU and other units, in all hospitals. Studies with significant reliability data, high internal and external validity, are imperative in making changes in hospitals around the world to decrease secondary injury to patient populations and increasing their chances of full recovery from their injuries. Although, this particular study resulted in preliminary data, similar protocols found in this study are implemented by the UNM NICU. AOL Time Warner Essay -- essays papers

AOL Time Warner On January 10, 2000, one of the largest, most powerful mergers was announced to the world. Media giant Time Warner will join forces with the Internet superstar, America on Line. The $183 billion dollar deal is the biggest in history. In the recent past, there has been a wave of merger-mania, both in the United States and in Europe. The merger of the Millennium is between America on Line and Time Warner. The AOL Time Warner deal represents the joining of the Old Media with the New Media. Not only is it a marriage of different approaches, the two CEO's are very diverse individuals. The two companies are quite different, in nearly every aspect. Some of the divisions of Time Warner have been around since the 1920's, while the youngster, AOL is a mere fifteen years old. The quick paced, new up starting Internet companies never thought in a million years they would ever need the old stand-by media organizations. "The Internet will revolutionize everything", that is what their beliefs were. They were fearless and believed themselves to be invincible, but things have changed. The Internet has put the world only a mouse click away and it has changed the world. The fact of the matter is the world of the Internet is extremely competitive and in order to survive, you must invest huge sums into your marketing campaign, in some cases up to seventy percent of a budget. The one thing that you can always could on in this word is change, and there are going to be some major changes in the realm of the high tech companies. The 'techies' are going to have to realize their need for and have to learn how to form lasting relationships with the 'old stand bys' in order to keep up with today's world. Time Warner is, for the most part, a stable reliable organization. Time Warner's holdings include many magazines, Time, Sports Illustrated, Money and Fortune just to name a few. Time Warner also possesses Warner Brothers Studio, Warner Music (which recently acquired EMI Music), Turner Classic Movies and an array of television stations. A partial list of the broadcast networks includes CNN, TNT and HBO. Time Warner is also the second largest cable television provider in the country. They have also recently invested huge sums of money into their cable system to prepare it for Roadrunner technologies. Roadrunner is an alternative to a standard Internet se... ...ast year crossed national borders. Experts expect this trend to continue in Europe. One French banker made the bold prediction that one third of the top forty blue chips in France will either gobble up, or be gobbled up by another company in the coming year. I believe that the mergers and super mergers are going to continue in the future. I also believe that these transactions are going to become necessary for businesses to remain competitive and to not fall to the wayside. The joining of mega media giants AOL and Time Warner is going to start a trend and I believe we will see many more combinations of similar companies in the future. Companies will be forced to play this merger game if they want to stay alive and remain successful. This, I believe, is the trend for the new millennium and it is a trend that will become a new way of doing business. Jim Teague in Tanzania

Jim Outage, an MBA associate with a diploma in engineering, is hired for a summer internship in rural Africa to be an officer of a U. S- based social investment firm that is looking for an important agribusiness project in Africa. A small successful company in Tanzania â€Å"Cigarillo† is in the run for being financed by Agrarian. Upon his arrival in Tanzania, he is faced upon two issues: Cigarillo faces some major health-safety issues with the risks of spreading E-coli among the population.Another problem Jim Outage is facing is the fact that he does not know exactly whether the company that identified the potential contamination of E-coli found a real problem or is Just looking for a payoff as Baby is stipulating. The quandary Jims employer is subjecting too is either to withdraw their investment or Just ignore the allegations against the local company. This paper will identify the issues in the case, explain the legal issues and give some recommendations on how Jim Outage c an resolve these issues to save his company's reputation.Identify the major cultural differences and the resulting ethical, or legal challenges Jim Outage faced working at Cigarillo in Tanzania. Jim Outage faces some cultural differences when he went to Tanzania. The major cultural difference he encountered is the fact that people in Tanzania are easily variable. In the video â€Å"Spotlight on India and Mexico† both countries are attractive markets with low cost manufacturing bases, but they have high risks business environment. This is the case for Tanzania, the difference in culture makes it hard for foreign people to do business.First, when he first got to Tanzania, to find his apartment he had to give some money to the person who helped him find his apartment because he had some issues finding direction. That was the first cultural shock he encountered. Second, he was facing himself with some major ethical, or legal challenges in Tanzania different from what he encounter ed in the United States. When he was first arrested by the police officer he had no choice that to bribe a police officer who stopped him illegally without no Justifying reasons.Facing with making the decision of either spending the night in a Tanzania Jail or giving something to the police officer so he can leave in peace he offered the police officer the Cad's of Jim Reeves that belonged to Baby. When Baby mentioned that the Tanzania Certification Agency (TCL) had discovered traces of E-coli in Sourpuss's most popular product, Baby immediately assumed that it is a case of bribery because that is the legal environment in Tanzania. People are faced with constant bribery so it pertains on their ability to make a good Judgment of any situation they enter. The cultural differences Jim Outage encountered since his arrival in Tanzania blurred his ability to think critically. Jim Outage was sort of bribed by Baby and his wife. Since his arrival they treated him as a king and Baby even went head and offered him a car, and they invited him all the time for a meal. In Tanzania, they treat business partners as family members. As the case with Jim Outage, Baby and mama treated him as he was their son and even took the liberty to ask Jim to marry a woman from â€Å"Tanzania† called â€Å"shaggy woman† (p. 3). How did Jim Outage get into the difficulty in which he finds himself?Does he bear some responsibility for his predicament? There are many reasons why Jim Outage found was supposed to. He was blurred by everything Baby and Mama offered him. By doing that, Baby was making sure Jim Outage was closed to him. So when he explained him the situation about the company that discovered E. Coli, Jim Tease's opinion was already biased because he was forced to think as a local citizen will think. He put himself in this situation because he felt for what Baby and Mama did for him. They were only business partners, he should have kept some boundaries and do his Job the way he was supposed to.He believed what Baby told him about the TCL without making his own research first. In addition, when they went to the farm, he decided not to talk about his impressions and findings to Baby knowing the risk the farmers where taking by using cow manure. The fact that Jim Outage is inexperienced also played some responsibility for this difficulty he encountered. He was not prepared enough for the problems facing the society in Tanzania. What encouraged Jim to pay off the police? Do Stagehand's â€Å"five rules† suggest methods Jim could have used to avoid paying bribes?Jim a couple of days after coming to Tanzania found himself in a complicated situation with a police officer who arrested him illegally. He decided to pay off the police officer with the Cad's of Jim Reeves belonging to Baby. Jim was encourages to pay off the police officer because he did not want to go to Jail. It was either paying off the officer or go into the pain of being locked up f or something he did not do. He did not think about it twice while he was giving the CD because his decision was the most rational decision at the time. He could have avoided bribery by using Stagehand's â€Å"five rules† to avoid bribery. The first rule according to Eastland is to never assume that you have to give bribe. In Jims case, he did not try to negotiate with the office; he directly assumed that the police officer wanted something in return of his freedom that is why he gave him the Cad's. The second rule is to â€Å"Just say no. According to the author even if asked people have to resist the urge to bribe by Just saying no. Jim could have explained to the officer that he was new in the city and he did not intend to violate rules while driving and assume the consequences of his act.The third rule is to look for legal and ethical ways to meet the person needs without bribing. Eastland gives three examples of ways to do that: offer an expense paid visit to the home cou ntry or offer training course in home country, make an accommodate donation, and finally do something personal for the person. In Jims case knowing that the officer arrested him illegally thou no reason he could have done him a favor by doing something personal for the officer such as invite him to the restaurant if he let him go or offer him a pass for an event. The fourth rule is to find some creative ways to attend your goals without jeopardizing your integrity. Jim Outage could have found some ways not to bribe the officer by using his head. The fifth rule is to know the culture of the country in question. By knowing exactly how the Tanzania culture works, he could have avoided to give away Abs's CD and still get away without any problem. What action should Jim recommend to his U. S. Oppressor, Allen? In proposing a responsible solution, consider international standards for business practices, the varying impacts, determine the economic outcomes, consider the legal requirements, a nd evaluate ethical obligations. How would you communicate your decision to Baby? Business practices, the impacts his decisions will have, determine the economic outcomes, consider the legal requirements, and evaluate ethical obligations. Jim should tell the truth no matter what to his U. S. Supervisor. He should make a decision based on the facts and those facts state that Cigarillo flour is contaminate. In addition, he saw some additional proofs even though that could explain the E. Coli contamination by the use of cow manure. He needs to weigh both situations and decide which one will make the most arm. He has the choice of letting go of the situation and act as if the Tanzania company Just want a bribe or say â€Å"no† which will make a big impact on the population in Tanzania. DRY states companies should take into account the micro-risks they will face in a given company such as systemic, procedural, distributive, and catastrophic (p. 107). In this case, the procedural po litical risk is the one related to Tanzania.Countries transactions or authorizations to do something important in a given country could be stopped by political actions, public fraud or a partisan Judicial system. Jim should take into considerations the micro issues while talking with his supervisor. That will help him elucidate the problem because he is the one in the country; he understands better the culture now that he lives there. The video â€Å"the new global challengers† explains that internationally active firms create Jobs thereby create increasing the living standards of the population concerned. Tanzania is considered as an emerging market.According to the video, merging markets are characterized by inadequate infrastructures, underdeveloped legal system, and high risks business environments. This is exactly what Tanzania is going through. Knowing those issues will help Jim determine the best solution. In this case, a negative answer will be more beneficial and mor e economic because the company will save money by not investing on a business that is doomed to failure in the long run. Even if they decide to ignore the allegations against Cigarillo, they will still pay the price if people find that such a reputable company such as Agrarian was implicated in such allegations. This will completely mess up their reputation. Jim should recommend not toggle the loan to Cigarillo no matter what will happen to his relationships with Baby. This is for his best interest. The ethical obligations force him to tell exactly what is going on by being neutral without taken any side. That meaner explaining the use of cow manure while making the flour and take into account the content of the report even though Baby thinks the company is Just looking to be bribed. Jim should communicate his decision to Baby by explaining him the danger that E. Coli will have on the customers.Baby should understand that ensuing the loan ill have a big impact and endanger the health of thousands of people and put Agrarian at risk. Henequen He should also explain that he has his hands tight and that he might get fired if he does not make the right decision. This technique might alleviate the anger Baby will have against Jim after telling him. Where would you go for guidance, either within or outside your company and organization. In the absence of guidance, what would you do? For guidance within the company I will ask my follow coworkers what they think of the situation, and what they think I should do.It's always good to know what other people think before acting. In Jims case, his friend's remark helped me realized that if he was in the United States he would have acted differently. In the absence of guidance, I will Just follow my instinct and do what is the loan will deprive hundreds of farmers their income. The right thing is this case seems to be going a â€Å"no† decision because it will have less effect than going with a â€Å"yes. † Brief ly outline the key components of an ethics or compliance program for a small-sized foreign company that would provide guidance on the types of issues Jim faced at Cigarillo.Effective compliance programs fits exactly the specific business ND the risks associated with the business in question. 1. Develop open lines of communication. For a compliance program to be effective, the most important element is that employees feel comfortable asking questions and reporting possible violations. * Establish an open-door policy for the compliance official or committee and the highest level of on-site management to receive employee reports. * Guarantee that there will be no retaliation against employees who make good-faith reports of misconduct. Provide an anonymous suggestion box, which may induce some employees to report problems. 2. Identify the risks. Management must first ferret out risks that the company faces, so the right factors can be monitored, audited and evaluated. A wide range of po tential risks should be considered, including: Environmental risks (clean air and water, hazardous waste disposal, transportation of hazardous materials, etc. ) * Health and safety * Money laundering, especially when involved with foreign entities 3. Establish standards and procedures. Some fundamental standards and procedures should be included in any organization's compliance program. For example, every business should: * Adhere to a record retention policy. Perform background screening of potential employees. * Develop forms to address recurring issues, so that incidents are recorded fully and consistently. 4. Designate a compliance official or committee. Every compliance program must be overseen by an individual or committee that has ultimate accountability. These duties might include: * Overseeing and monitoring the implementation of the compliance program. Establishing methods to improve quality of service and reduce vulnerability to fraud and abuse.

Abnormality of Lindsay Lohan Essay

For one to be classified as psychologically abnormal, he or she must display the four mannerisms of abnormality, known as â€Å"the four D’s: dysfunction, distress, deviance, and dangerousness. I am certain that the Hollywood star, Lindsay Lohan, meets the qualifications of abnormality. Lindsay’s behavior prevents her functioning normally in life. Lindsay Lohan’s addiction to alcohol and her drug abuse has landed her in and out of jail and as well as rehabilitation centers numerous times. According to CNN, â€Å"Lindsay Lohan pled guilty with the possession of cocaine and drinking under the influence†. Lindsay’s trouble with law has caused great distress to her health as well. According to TMZ, Lindsay Lohan was hospitalized for stress induced Pneumonia. Lindsay claims that the stress in which induced her pneumonia originated from her citation for a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian. Lindsay’s chronic stealing behavior can be viewed as deviant. According to TMZ, Lindsay Lohan has been accused on many occassions of stealing items such as: clothes, necklaces, earings, and shoes from various apparel boutiques. Lastly, Lindsay has endangered society with her alcohol addictions. Fox News reports that Lindsay Lohan has been arrested for drinking under the influence many times. In one of her many drinking under the influence-related accidents, she crashed her car into another moving vehicle. Approaching this from a cognitive perspective, I believe that the wreckless and attention seeking behavior that Lindsay Lohan outputs is a direct result from her parent’s divorce and stress induced from her sky-rocketing childhood fame. In Lindsay Lohan’s hit song â€Å"Confessions of a broken heart†, she emotionally expresses her relationship with her father. In her lyrics she says, â€Å"And I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, a family in crisis that only grows older, why’d you have to go†¦ I dream of another you one who would never leave me alone to pick up the pieces, a daddy to hold me because that’s all I needed†. In psychopathology, the cognitive perspective views that one’s thought processesinfluences his/her behavior and emotion. In Lindsay’s negative exposure to her family fights and parent’s divorce, I believe that she lacked proper love and attention from her emotionally drained mother and uninvolved father. With the lack of attention from her two parents and her fame slowly fading away, her mind justified that it was  acceptable to engage in wreckless/irrational behavior to gain that attention that she desired. Lindsay Lohan uses this attribution as a desperate attempt to gain control of other’s attention so that she will not feel forgotten, like how her father abandoned her. I believe she makes global assumptions that she deserves everyone’s love and attention. Lindsay’s useage of drugs and engagement in wreckless behavior is a desperate cry for attention that she seeks to satisfy her feeling of being forgotten. If she does not seek therapy soon to learn how to deal with her emotions more effectively, her wreckless, attention seeking behavior will only be reinforced.

Comparison Between Macbeth and Banquo’s Response

Macbeth and Banquo’s reaction to the prophecy told to them by the witch’s gave way for two opposing opinions on both the validity and manifesting of the prophecy. Although their opinions throughout the unveiling of the prophecy were opposing throughout, at all times they both rendered the prophecy in contrastive ways, whether they contemplated on its benefit or hindrance towards their gleaming future. â€Å"All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! † Great fear was shown on Macbeth’s face suggesting he was very hesitant toward the idea of him becoming King. However Banquo was much more optimistic about the words of the witch’s, questioning Macbeth, â€Å"why do you start and seem to fear things that do sound so fair? † Macbeth is still in shock which gives time for Banquo to question the witch’s about his future. He became quite intrigued by what the witch’s had told Macbeth so he could not withhold the opportunity to be a cquainted with his children’s faith and discover â€Å"which grain will grow and which will not†. Banquo seemed to be quite optimistic in his willingness to indulge in the witch’s prophecies. Stay you imperfect speakers, tell me more! † This portrays to us that Macbeth has now become fond of the prophecy and is thirsts to know more about his future. As Macbeth continues to cry out for the witch’s return after their abrupt disappearing, he cries out â€Å"Would they had stayed! † It now becomes apparent that Macbeth is engulfed in what the witches have told both him and Banquo. Suddenly Banquo begins to revisit the whole situation and begins to speculate if the entire ordeal actually occurred. â€Å" Or have we eaten on the insane root that takes the reason prisoner? he continues to question the possibility that they could be hallucinating. This is the beginning of Banquo’s now hesitance towards indulging in the witch’s propheci es, and Macbeth’s now apparent obsession with the witch’s prophecy. Macbeth attempts to persuade Banquo by regurgitating the witch’s prophecy and reminding Banquo that his children â€Å"shall be kings†. And what better could Banquo have replied to Macbeth with to continue to hold Macbeth prisoner to the prophecy other than â€Å"You shall be king†.It is now seen that the tides have shifted, and Macbeth is now very much engulfed in the prophecy, as Macbeth discovers that a portion of the prophecy has been fulfilled with the title ‘Thane of Cawdor’ being placed unto him. As Macbeth continues to be animated about the possibility of the entire prophecy being fulfilled, Banquo becomes hesitant towards the prophecy. It is this speech by Banquo that defines his reasons for being so cautious in his reaction to the prophecy. â€Å"oftentimes to win us to our harm the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betra y’s in deepest consequence. This speech portrays Banquo’s new found reluctance towards the witch’s forecast of the future. He now sees what Macbeth is blind too, the possibility of knowledge becoming more harmful to the men rather than helpful in Macbeth’s want for more, particularly pertaining to him becoming King. As Macbeth begins to weigh the prophecy against logic and the now present, he accepts the fact that if â€Å"two truths are told, as happy prologues to the swelling act of the imperial theme. Macbeth is now beginning to assume that if portions of the prophecy are being fulfilled as the witch’s had said, it is only a matter of time before he shall become king. As Macbeth continues to be engulfed by what will be his future downfall, he assumes that all of his new found fortune â€Å"Cannot be ill, cannot be good†. Macbeth begins to wonder if the prophecy is so good, then why is it now that he is considering killing Duncan in order to receive the throne. And sadly he is willing to do whatever he believes it takes to become, completely being unaware to the fact that he did not have to intervene in order for him to become Thane of Cawdor as the witch’s had prophesised. â€Å"Come what come may† Macbeth says, proposing that he is willing to kill Duncan if necessary. It was clear that before scrutinizing the prophecy Banquo was much aroused by the witches’ foretelling of the future, but after close examination he became tentative towards him possibly becoming a victim of the new found knowledge.Sadly it is very apparent that Macbeth is now engulfed in his plans to becoming King using any means necessary. What makes it so unfortunate is that he doesn’t realize it, â€Å" Think upon what hath chanced, and at more time, the interim having weighed it, let us speak our free hearts to each other â€Å", he says this not realizing that his mind is already made up on the fact that he will sto p at nothing to gain the crown.Banquo’s hesitance towards the witches is well justified in the fact that witches seldom inform us completely on the future, leaving us to pursue and conclude the fantasy with our devilish wishes. Both Banquo and Macbeth share their reasons in an attempt to justify their reaction towards the witch’s speech, but it is apparent that Macbeth is engulfed by greed and his wishes to become King.
